Social
Cataloguing FAQ
1.
Do
you use any of the social cataloguing sites mentioned in this lab?
Yes I do use a social cataloguing
website.
If so, what do you use?
I use Good reads.
2. What do you think are the pros and cons of social cataloguing from a
library perspective?
I think that social cataloguing is
a great way for people to share their favorite books. It is also a great way
for people to find book they might like to read. Unfortunately there is practically
no standardization with in social cataloguing. Social cataloguing also allows unorthodox
ways of spelling.
3. Do you think library catalogues should begin to move towards the
look, feel and usability of social catalogues?
I think that libraries should
movie towards some similar to social cataloguing.
Why or why not?
This would be more user friendly
for the patrons. This would also be more helpful in finding book that the patrons
are looking for.

Wiki FAQ
Wiki FAQ
•1. Give a brief summary of wikis in your
own words
◦What is it? How is it used? Who uses it?
Wikis are an online source for sharing information on different
topic that can be edited by other people on the web.
•2. Give your opinion of wikis.
◦Do you like it/dislike it? Is it useful?
Would you/Do you use it?
I have used wiki
websites and I think wiki’s can be useful if you’re looking up information for personal
reasons (like if you’re looking up information about cats). However I because it’s
such an open sources of information I would take the information whit a grain of
salt.
•3. Contribute
suggestions for further uses for wikis in libraries. ◦Can it be expanded upon?
Is it outdated and a newer technology should be used instead? Are there other
ways it could be used in libraries? What types of libraries could benefit from
its use?
I think that well wikis is and ok scores for information; I would
think that websites like twitter and tumblr would be more popular. However if a library were to use wiki sites I
would think that a public library would benefit the most from it use, this way
they could reach more of the public as opposed
to a school library that wouldn’t necessarily need to necessarily adversities to
such a great number of patrons.
Here a good example of
a well done wiki page on libraries. It’s simple and easy to use

RRS FAQ
1. Which RSS feeds
did you look at while you were browsing for one to subscribe to?
I looked at a couple of different
feeds, Orillia campus library, education library blog, and Golvnfo, the Dublin trinity
college library feed.
2. Which RSS feed did
you finally choose?
I’m following two RRS feeds the first one is the Dublin trinity
college library and the Orillia campus library.
3. Why did you choose
this one, and what do you hope to gain from being a subscriber?
I’m following the trinity college library feed because I hope
to work in that library someday. I hope to gain more information about the
library itself. I’m also followed the Orillia library because it seemed like it
would be an interesting blog to follow and I thought I would gain even more
information about what it’s like to work in a library.

Micro blogs
1. Write a “Dear
Twitter” letter, in which you tell Twitter how you feel about it. What do you
think about Twitter as an information source? How might you use it in your
personal or professional life? What misgivings do you have?
Dear twitter
I’m sure you’re a very great way for people to stay in touch
with their friends and family from all over the world. However I just can’t
seem to be bothered with using my own twitter account ; don’t get me wrong I think your great , even
I occasionally check my twitter to see how my favorite celebrities are doing. I
just don’t think that I have anything worth saying , sure I could post silly things
like what I ate for breakfast or what I’m watching on T.V. that moment. Maybe someday
I’ll get with the program and start using you. If I were to ever get a job as a
library tech in a public library you would be a great way to give patrons up to
the minute information about what’s going on with our library.
Sincerely Still
on the fence.
2. Comment on the five library Twitter
accounts in the previous activity. How are these libraries using Twitter? Are
they well-followed? Are there any ideas you find particularly interesting?
I felt that all of these blogs were very well
done. For the most part they all seemed to be very well followed. I liked how Vancouver’s
public libraries page was trying to promote public awareness about banned books
week.
3. If you already
have a Twitter account, discuss your experiences with it. Do you use it often?
Do you use it to connect with friends or groups and organizations? What do you
like and dislike about Twitter?
I do have a twitter account, however the only thing a use it
for is to follow my favorite celebrity’s. I don’t really have any complaints
with twitter; I’m just not overly amazed with it.

Blog FAQ’s
1 What new information did you
gain from today's lab on blogs?
I learned that not only are
libraries keeping the blog user informed about the different types of books the
library has to offer. They are also keeping the user informed of different events
that the library is hosting.
2. Out of the 5 blogs you looked
at in Activity 2, which one(s) did you prefer?
Mohawk College Library Brain Blog
for Students
Why? What was of interest to you
on it?
I preferred this
blog because it kept the user informed about the different type of technologies
the library was trying out, it had great educational tips for the students, and
the blog really seemed to care about the opinions of its users.
3 In your own
words, discuss the ways in which you think using a blog in libraries could be
useful to patrons.
Blogs open up a whole new world
for the libraries patrons.
They inform the
users about new books that have come in, they keep the user informed about
different events that the library is hosting and it’s a new way for the users

Here’s a really great video we watched in multimedia serves the other day about web 2.0 /The Machine is Us/ing Us (YouTube Video)
Web 2.0 FAQ
1- What was your knowledge of Web 2.0 before doing this lab?
I before I entered into the library technology course I had heard of the term web 2.0 but was never sure of what it really was. Little did I know that practically everyone in this day and age is using web 2.0 via Tumbler and other interactive social media.
2- What was your knowledge of Web 2.0 being used in libraries?
My knowledge of libraries using web 2.0 was very limited. I was not expecting that libraries would have their own account on twitter or to find out that like web 2.0 there is now a library 2.0.
3- What is your opinion of the integration of Web 2.0 technologies in libraries today?
I think that it’s a great idea. It makes a lot of sense that libraries would want to incorporate newer technologies. They need to in order to keep people interested and to prove that libraries are still very relevant to society in this day and age.
4- At this point, how comfortable do you feel using/participating in Web 2.0 technologies such as blogging, podcasting or tweeting?
I feel very comfortable using web 2.0, seeing as how I’ve been using web 2.0 technology for a third of my life without even knowing it .
5- Do you have any questions you’d like to ask?
Not at this time
