Wiki FAQ

Wiki FAQ

•1. Give a brief summary of wikis in your own words

◦What is it? How is it used? Who uses it?

Wikis are an online source for sharing information on different topic that can be edited by other people on the web.

•2. Give your opinion of wikis.

◦Do you like it/dislike it? Is it useful? Would you/Do you use it?

I have used wiki websites and I think wiki’s can be useful if you’re looking up information for personal reasons (like if you’re looking up information about cats). However I because it’s such an open sources of information I would take the information whit a grain of salt.

•3. Contribute suggestions for further uses for wikis in libraries. ◦Can it be expanded upon? Is it outdated and a newer technology should be used instead? Are there other ways it could be used in libraries? What types of libraries could benefit from its use?

I think that well wikis is and ok scores for information; I would think that websites like twitter and tumblr would be more popular.  However if a library were to use wiki sites I would think that a public library would benefit the most from it use, this way they could reach more of the public  as opposed to a school library that wouldn’t necessarily need to necessarily adversities to such a great number of patrons.

Here a good example of a well done wiki page on libraries. It’s simple and easy to use
